2019_04_24_rafael_bordini_Print_(arquivo_pessoal)_2School of Technology professor Dr Rafael Heitor Bordini started his activities as a visiting professor, under the scope of the PUCRS-PrInt program (Call 01/2019 – Senior or Junior Visiting Professor Abroad), in April. Bordini has served in a number of institutions in the UK. He is expected to stay for 11 months in Europe, where he will collaborate with Università deli Studi di Genova Professor Dr Viviana Mascardi, in Italy, and with Professor Dr Michael Wooldridge, at the University of Oxford, in the UK.

In Genoa, Bordini will be working on the combination of two artificial intelligence techniques: ontologies and argumentation theory. His study will look at an agent-oriented programming language for the development of autonomous intelligent systems, to be used for social purposes and sustainable actions. In his view, the project could bring about benefits in two specific areas: the use of autonomous vehicles for rescuing victims in natural disasters and in health care activities as well.

In addition to his research and his book, a number of other activities are in his schedule during his stay abroad. He will be delivering lectures in the departments he is going to visit, and he is going to attend a meeting with members of the European Union’s COST Action on Digital forensics: evidence analysis via intelligent systems and practices, in June, in Trieste. He is also expected to continue working with other international universities, especially the Technical University of Clausthal, Sorbonne University, Technical University of Denmark and University of Bologna.

Bordini’s research interests are embraced by the PUCRS-PrInt area Technology and Biodiversity: Sustainability, Energy and the Environment. He will be working on the project Technological Advances for the Development of an Interconnected World, under the coordination of Professor Fabian Vargas.
