In early April, PUCRS welcomed professor and researcher from the Technischen Universität Wien (TU Wien) Markus Tomaselli, who currently works at the Institute of Urban Design and Landscape Architecture. On this opportunity, the professor met with professor and dean from the School of Technology Sandra Einloft and with professor and coordinator of PUCRS’s Architecture and Urbanism course Maria Alice Medeiros, to define possible joint projects.

Tomaselli develops researches in the fields of climatology, engineering, architecture and urbanism, at the Institut für Städtebau, from the Austrian university. The researcher had already been to PUCRS in another opportunity with the Austrian Ambassador in Brazil and the Austrian’s Honorary Consul in Rio Grande do Sul Kathrin Rosenfield, in February 2022, welcomed by Professor Draiton Gonzaga de Souza, Associate Director of the Center for European and German Studies (CDEA). Next, the professor visited the university’s facilities, such as the Science and Technology Park (Tecnopuc) and the NT-Solar.

On the same year, PUCRS and TU Wien signed a cooperation, research, and academic mobility agreement, with the purpose of promoting joint projects and student and teacher mobility within the Architecture and Urbanism course. On the second semester of 2023, a student from the Architecture and Urbanism course will be on academic mobility at TU-Wien. For the second semester and 2023 and first semester of 2024, academic mobility is planned for two students from TU-Wien’s Architecture and Urbanism course at the School of Technology’s Architecture and Urbanism course.

In this relationship, it was possible for Tomaselli, who is the coordinator responsible for TU Wien’s relationships with Brazilian institutions, to visit. The professor was welcomed by the Office for International Cooperation, with the participation of executive coordinator Carla Bonan, where he could learn more about PUCRS.

With his visit, the professor can discuss the perspectives for expansion in cooperation and join activities in the field of environment and architecture. In addition, Tomaselli’s participation was discussed as lecturer at the International Congress: Sustainability, the City and Society 2023, which will take place in October at PUCRS. The event is supported by TU Wien and the Atelier – social housing and sustainability | Brazil and Austria week-long seminar will take place, for students who are interested.
