Horizontes 2017 Sonia Palomo, Director of the Andalusia Technology Park (PTA), from Spain, visited Tecnopuc – PUCRS’ Science and Technology Park, in the presence of the Vice Director for Strategic Projects of the University of Málaga, Víctor Muñoz. They joined the first edition of Horizontes 2017 Project.

Having Spanish technology parks in mind, Sonia talked about the ecosystem and the development of the Andalusia Technology Park, a global case of success. The Málaga Park, which opened in 1992, began its activities with eight companies. Today it is home to more than 630 companies and around 19,000 employees. These companies’ revenues put together are estimated to be at around 2 million euros per year. Besides, it is home to the International Association of Science Parks and Areas of Innovation (IASP). “The ATP is, without a shade of doubt, the city’s economic and business engine”, says Sonia.

In her view, the activities carried out at the Park, in addition to having an eye to the development of companies and startups, are increasingly geared towards the city of Málaga. “We have partnerships with museums, nursing schools and regular schools, which make it possible for the community to make use of these services with at a discount. This is how people can benefit from our ecosystem”, says she.

On the ATP’s relationship with Tecnopuc, Sonia goes on to say that the actions promoted by PUCRS’ Park go hand in hand with the Andalusia scenario. PUCRS’ Dean of Science, Technology and Innovation Affairs, Jorge Audy, claims this relationship has resulted in a softlanding platform which will facilitate the exchange of experiences between Tecnopuc and ATP companies soon.

At the same meeting, PhD student Ghissia Hauser, who works at the Office for Incentives to Development of Metroplan, delivered a lecture entitled Parques tecnológicos, redes globais e centralidade urbana: o caso do Tecnopuc. Ghissia showed the benefits brought by such technology parks to cities.
