Giovani SaavedraFrom Apr 12 – 13, PUCRS organized, the conference Compliance Across Americas, in São Paulo, with the goal of disseminating the culture of ethical behavior. The event featured 12 sessions with more than 40 compliance specialists (adherence to the regulations established for a business). The event, which was geared towards managers, directors and business administrators, fostered the exchange of information and experiences in risk management, corporate governance, auditing and compliance as well as the ethical behavior to be developed in companies.

The University joined the Viadrina Compliance Center, the European University Viadrina Frankfurt, the Compliance Academy Münster, the Escola Superior de Ética Corporativa Negócio e Inovação (ESENI), the Instituto Arc and the Instituto Compliance Poland to offer the event in Brazil. This is the fourth edition of Across, following three others that occurred in Frankfurt, Bangkok and Hamburg. The event also marked the official launching of the Brazilian Association of Risks, Auditing and Compliance.

For Law School professor Dr Giovani Saavedra, a specialist in corporate criminal law and compliance and president of the conference’s organizing committee in Brazil, it is extremely important to bring an event of this caliber to this country. “Especially here, as corruption is rife, discussing compliance is very important thing as it is a system of prevention to corruption”, claims he.

Dr Saavedra has also discussed the role played by PUCRS. “The University is important in the Brazilian job market, and it is a great opportunity to take part in this international scenario. We were able to allow for students in the specialization program in compliance as well as other Master’s and Doctoral students to join the event at no charge”, says he.
