Main Officer of US Consulate in Porto Alegre visits PUCRS

Julia Harlan visited Tecnopuc and talked about the strengthening of partnerships

PUCRS opened its doors to the main officer of the US Consulate in Porto Alegre, Julia Harlan, on Wednesday, Aug 2. She was in the presence of the Advisor for Economics and Politics, Aline Vecchia, and by the Press, Culture and Education Specialist of the Consulate, Marianne Behs. They were welcomed by the Vice President, professor Jaderson Costa da Costa, by the Dean of Office of International and Institutional Affairs (AAII), Heloísa Delgado, and by the Director of the Science and Technology Park of PUCRS (Tecnopuc), Rafael Prikladnicki, at the President’s Office Great Hall.

Among the topics addressed during the visit were the 200 years of Marist actions, the strengthening of ties between the consulate and the University, exchange programs to the United States in the area of health care, social actions in Vila Fátima, international guests and US companies based at Tecnopuc, among other topics. Julia visited the Science and Technology Park and will be coming back to visit the Brain Institute of RS (BraIns) and Tecna, in Viamão.

Julia Harlan, a diplomat with a solid career in the US Department of State, has served as senior advisor of the Vice Secretary of State Heather Higginbottom, supervising officer for Office Management under the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs and has worked in the Department for Communication and Crisis Management of the Department of State, in Washington. She has served in the US Embassies in Mexico City and Beijing and at the General Consulate in Shanghai, China. A native of Indiana, she holds a Bachelor’s Degree in History from Barnard College, holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Wisconsin, a Master’s Degree in Public Relations from the School of Public and Environmental Affairs of the University of Indiana. Before joining the Department of State, she worked in public and private law and volunteered for Peace Corps in Latvia.
