PUCRS held the 7th National Forum of Museums (FNM), from May 30 to Jun 4. For the first time in Porto Alegre, the event paved the way for multidisciplinary discussions on the paths Brazilian museums have to tread, in view of Unesco Recommendation 2015 for the Protection and promotion of Museums and Collections.

The program enabled the museum community to exchange experiences through lectures, short courses and three major international conferences. The President of the International Committee for Museology of the International Council of Museums (Icofom/Icom), François Mairesse, addressed the challenges posed by the Unesco Recommendation 2015, as he stressed the influence of the geopolitical contexts on the Economics of Culture, especially in times of crises.

The National Deputy Director of the Museums of the Government of Chile , Alan Trampe Torrejón, discussed the importance of museums through international cooperation – 10 years of the Declaration of Salvador. Lastly, Jill Cousins, executive director of project Europeana discussed Museums in the 21st century: communication and new audiences.

Google-Ibram Partnership

Additionally, the Brazilian Institute of Museums (Ibram) and Google set up a partnership for the promotion of digital archives. It is now possible to get access to 1,300 works of art and 18 virtual exhibits of the digital archives of Lasar Segall Museum (SP), the National Historical Museum, Castro Maya Museums, National Museum of Fine Arts and the Imperial Museum of Brazil (RJ) by using the app Google Arts & Culture. The initiative will lead to the democratization and access to culture.
