International Communications Seminar Submissions for the 14th International Communications Seminar (Seicom), brought to you by the Graduate Program (PPGCom) of the School of Communications of PUCRS, are open until Aug 28. This year’s edition’s theme is Medias in transformation: intermedia, transmedia and crossmedia. The event will occur from Nov 6 – 8, and will feature guests such as Lars Elleström, a reference in intermedia studies, from Linnaeus University (Sweden), and sociologist Derrick de Kerckhove, who headed the McLuhan Program in Culture and Technology of the University of Toronto (Canada), as well as other guests from Italy, France and Brazil.

This year, unlike previous editions, expanded abstracts of papers submitted before registration can be accepted. Then, applicants will be able to register after having their presentations confirmed at Seicom. Additionally, this year’s edition will feature the implementation of the work groups (GTs)  on Intermediality: texts, arts and media and Scientific Initiation, the latter being an encouragement to the development of new researchers. Deadline for participants ends on Oct 31.

 Connecting different languages

According to the coordinator of the PPGCom, Antonio Hohlfeldt, this year’s edition of Seicom is intended to bring together different languages. “We want contributions from other areas, and we have decided to expand our range of operation to areas such as Modern Languages, Architecture and Design, using varied languages, which is a reflection of what we are suggesting, since it is such a contemporary, relevant and productive topic”, claimed he.

Book Release

One of the highlights of Seicom is the release of a compilation book of Lars Elleström’s new articles, on both printed and digital formats, edited by EdiPUCRS. The digital version will be made available at no charge.
