Global Criminology discussed in international congress at PUCRS

Graduate-level event featured specialists from Latin American, European and Australasian institutions

The Graduate Program in Criminal Sciences  of the Law School of PUCRS, in partnership with the Transdisciplinary Institute of Criminal Studies, promoted the 8th International Congress of Criminal Sciences from Oct 25 – 27. The event brought an interdisciplinary look to criminal sciences and featured guests from Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Spain, Portugal and the UK.

The conference was opened by Professor Wayne Morrison (Queen Mary University of London), who talked about Criminology, Civilization and the New World Order. Also from Europe, Professor Jesus Sabariego (Universidade de Coimbra) discussed Criminology, Civilization and the New World Order. From Universidad de Málaga, professor José Calvo gave a lecture on Pictorial turn and Criminology. Postage stamps as visual artifacts of ideological-legal inculturation. Visitant Professor Pat Carlen (The Open University) addressed the topic Alternative Criminology.

From South America, Professor Gabriel Ignacio Anitua (Universidad de Buenos Aires) spoke about Accounts of Criminological Thoughts. And from Australia, Professor Pat O’Malley, (Australian National University), talked about Rethinking Risk, Punishment and Neoliberalism. The event also featured the following book releases: “Alternative Crimonologies”, by Leandro Ayres França and Pat Carlen, and “Criminology and Governmentality”, by Pat O’Maley.
