PUCRS’ Center for Demonstration of Renewable Energies (CEDER) relies on different cutting-edge equipment for the production of power energy using photovoltaic, wind and water heating technologies. It is home for training programs, tests with equipment, development of new techniques, research and production of knowledge in renewable energies. Additionally, it offers educational activities of interest to students, staff members and dedicated professionals so that they can become agents of change and multipliers of knowledge in renewable energies.

It is equipped with 20 thin film photovoltaic modules, 4 monocrystalline silicon photovoltaic modules, two small power generators (a vertical axis and a horizontal one) and two flat collectors for water heating and a vacuum technology collector tubes, all located in the rooftop of Area D of Building 30. The system is fully integrated to a control and monitoring station and stores part of the electric energy generated in a specific batteries bank and the other part in the electrical network of the University. The water heated by the collectors is stored in a boiler. It is also equipped with a lounge for training programs, classes and tutoring.

CEDER is open for international visitors. To book a visit, email CEDER’s Coordinator Professor Odilon Francisco Pavón Duarte ([email protected]). The Center has been conceived after the implementation of a Cooperation Agreement between PUCRS, companies EPI Energia Projetos e Investimentos (Brazil) and WKA Sachsen Servise (Germany), and SENAI – National Service of Industrial Learning – Rio Grande do Sul Regional Department, to develop teaching, research and extension activities and training programs for students and professionals interested in renewable energies.
