Ambassador of Luxembourg visits PUCRS

University is the first higher education institution to be visited by Carlo Krieger

Carlo Krieger, Ambassador of Luxembourg to Brazil, visited PUCRS on Monday, Sep 11. After meeting the president Br. Evilázio Teixeira, and Vice President, Jaderson Costa, he visited the Science and Technology Park (Tencopuc) and the Museum of Science and Technology (MCT).

Krieger is the first ambassador of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg to Brazil, and PUCRS is the first university to open its doors for him. On Apr 13, 2017, the Brazilian government, through the Ministry of External Relations, granted Carlo Krieger an agrément to serve as extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of Luxembourg.

The ambassador was followed by PUCRS’ coordinator of extension programs in History of Art, Tania Bian. She will serve as the Consul of the Grand Duchy for the states of Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul.

Brasil and Luxembourg have had diplomatic relations since 1911 and shared similar views on issues such as human rights, self-determination of peoples, non-intervention, peaceful conflict solutions, cooperation and respect to international court decisions. Both countries are partners in initiatives geared towards the eradication of terrorism and drug dealing, combat to nuclear proliferation, expansion and liberalization of international trade and reduction of protectionism.
