Edeltraud Dorr Castro, Relationship Manager of Santander Universidades, came to PUCRS Mar 12 to officially confer on PUCRS 11 scholarships from the Bolsa Ibero-americana program, of the Spanish multinational. The goal is to give undergraduate students a chance to do an academic mobility program in Ibero-American countries.

The President of PUCRS Br. Evilázio Teixeira welcomed her in his office, in the presence of Dr Heloísa Koch Delgado, Dean of International Affairs (AAII),  , and Dr Ana Cristina Benso da Silva, Academic-Administrative Director (Prograd). PUCRS and Santander Universities have had this partnership for 8 years and, overall, 75 scholarships for study abroad have been offered to students from the Porto Alegre-based institution.

Scholarship recipients will have the chance to choose higher education institutions from 10 countries: Brazil, Peru, Argentina, Spain, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Portugal, Puerto Rico and Uruguay. The agreements established between the home and host institutions will allow for students to work on their degree programs for up to one semester abroad.

Students will have their tuition waived at the chosen university and will be eligible for a stipend of 3,000 €, which is equivalent to BRL 12,000 for their expenses during the academic semester. The program will be offered from Jan – Aug 2019.

Since the creation of the program Santander Universities in Brazil, more than 35,000 students and professors from all over the country were awarded with scholarships and grants. In 2017, 3,000 students received the award. In 2018, the Spanish company intends to award as many as 4,000 grants.
