PUCRS opened its doors to an official visit of the Ambassador of Israel in Brazil, Yossi Shelley, and representatives of the Federação Israelita in Rio Grande do Sul, Albert Poziomyck (executive vice president) and Roberto Wofchuk (vice president). The Embassy was interested in carrying out research projects with practical results that have an impact on the economy and foster socioeconomic advances in both countries.

PUCRS took advantage of the meeting to show its interest in strengthening the ties with Israeli universities in order to encourage academic mobility for its students and officiate an agreement. Additionally, the Embassy was keen to show its support to the University as a mediator in partnerships between Brazil and Israel.

Another topic that was discussed was the possibility to revisit the course on Jewish Philosophy, created in 2017 by Br. Joaquim Clotet and Prof. Dr Ricardo Timm. The idea of offering a program on Jewish Studies at PUCRS with the financial support of the Jewish community came up at a previous meeting with Rabbin Guershon Kwasniewski, Prof. Dr Erico Hammes and Prof. Dr Jaques Wainberg.

The delegation was welcomed at the Great Hall of the by Senior Vice President, Prof. Jaderson Costa da Costa; the Head of the President’s Office, Prof. Alexander Bernardes Goulart; by the Advisor to the President’s Office, Prof. Solimar Amaro and by the Dean of International and Institutional Affairs, Prof. Dr Heloisa Delgado. The School of Communications, Arts and Design was represented by Professor Dr Jacques Wainberg whereas the School of Humanities was presented by Dr Nythamar de Oliveira.
