To bring international students to the Brazilian market and, at the same time, encourage multicultural connections inside companies. These are the goals of the International Internship Program at the Science and Technology Park (Tecnopuc), available to international students exchanging at PUCRS. This is the first year of the program, which is looking for new partners to carry on. Tecnopuc companies interested in joining the program should send a line to [email protected] or call (51) 3320-3660.

Companies headquartered at the Park are encouraged to promote intercultural connections by hiring students from international institutions. Internship opportunities are made available and run by each company’s managers. Employers will be responsible for recruiting their own applicants. The Academic Mobility team has a list of opportunities for students from partner universities interested in doing an internship during their exchange program and, consequently, being an interlocutor between businesses and students.

Sandra Beatriz Miño, Administrative Coordinator of the Office of International and Interinstitutional Affairs (AAII) holds that the idea came out of exchanges with partner universities. In 2017, I had the chance to represent PUCRS in several international events, in countries such as Peru, Spain and the USA, which have given me the chance to exchange information and future joint actions. The program came out of these interactions, which have brought the internationalization program of our university to a higher level.

Dr Clarice Lamb, Tecnopuc’s Relationship Manager, claims that hiring international interns is a great opportunity for companies and their employees to have access to different cultures and traditions and this will contribute to the constructive development of individuals. “This development is a manifold process which includes from the learning of an additional language to the opening up to new ideas. We’re living in the knowledge area and international people are valuable to Brazilians as they will take on a different perception of themselves and of their companies. The knowledge produced will certainly be very fruitful at both the individual and collective levels”, says she.

The initiative is complementary to the international internship program which is now in effect at the university’s laboratories and research centers. In the first semester of 2018, four international students have come to PUCRS for the sole purposes of doing an internship.
