Seminar welcomes new international students

Campus tour, Porto Alegre bus tour and integration with volunteers from University Buddy were part of the program

PUCRS has welcomed new international students arriving for their academic mobility period at the institution. Overall, they are 26 students from 14 universities representing 10 countries: Germany, Canada, Chile, South Korea, Spain, France, Mexico, Portugal, United Kingdom and Sweden. Besides, 12 students who came for academic mobility in 2018/2 will stay for another term to make the most of their Campus experience. In addition to international students, a Brazilian has joined the group this semester. Marcus Campos Sobrinho is a law student from Universidade Católica de Pernambuco who is also in academic mobility at PUCRS.

On February 21 and 22, all participated in the Guidance Seminar organized by the Office for International Cooperation through the Academic Mobility department. During the program, they received academic guidance and information about Porto Alegre, took a Portuguese language leveling test and a Campus tour. They also took a Bus Tour of Porto Alegre and met volunteers of the University Buddy Program.

For Mexican Yelco Godoy, a Production Engineering student at Universidad de Celaya, expectations for the next six months in Brazil involve improving his Portuguese and learning more about Brazilian culture. The same goals encourage Karin Berg, a student at Uppsala University  who intends to stay at PUCRS until the end of 2019. “I’m looking forward to having totally different experiences in a new country, meeting new people and learning about other cultures,” adds the student who is visiting South America for the first time.

Portuguese Language Special Course

From February 7th to 20th, some of the international students also took the Portuguese for International Students special course, offered free of charge by the Office for International Cooperation.
