In the south of Brazil institution remains atop the Times Higher Education (THE) Latin America 2019
The international ranking Times Higher Education (THE) Latin America 2019 published on Tuesday, Jun 18, brings PUCRS as one of the 20 best higher education institutions in Latin America. It is also the #1 private university in the south of Brazil. This shows that PUCRS climbed 13 positions from 2018, and is considered the 2nd best private university in Brazil.
The President of PUCRS Br. Evilázio Teixeira, is proud of this international achievement. In his view, these are the fruits of the dedication of the university community in a quest for excellence in every area of operation. “Results like fill us with encouragement and drive us into the future, as we are aware of our commitment as a university of innovation and local, regional and national development”, he added.
This year, 150 universities from 12 countries of the continent are listed in the ranking. Brazil is still the country that has the largest number of representatives in the compilation: a third of all institutions in the ranking are from Brazil, six o which in the top 10. The ranking is based on the same criteria as THE World University Rankings, but it has some special features to better reflect the characteristics of Latin American universities.
Teaching and research climb higher
In view of all the ranking indicators, PUCRS remains atop the private institutions in Brazil in terms of citations. It ranks #3 in industry income including federal and private institutions. One of the highlights of this year is the significant position earned in research and teaching.
As for teaching, the result reflects the changes that have been made since 2017, such as the implementation of the Academic Schools, the Movement of Transformation PUCRS 360 ° and the Minors programs. In research, PUCRS is keen to develop high-level international research, in an effort to advance the production of knowledge and contribute to scientific and technological development.
Additionally, as a consequence of the level of quality of research developed at PUCRS, the institution fosters high-quality education, both at the graduate and undergraduate levels. By integrating Teaching and Research, it has produced the outstanding features of quality the institution now has. This generates a positive perception and strengthens the role it plays in society.
