Márcio Vinícius Donadio at European Respiratory CongressProfessor Dr Márcio Vinícius F. Donadio, of School of Medicine’s Graduate Program in Pediatrics and Child Health, represented PUCRS at the European Respiratory Society International Congress (ERS). The event occurred from Sep 15 – 19, in Paris (France), and is the largest event in the area of respirology in Europe and features experts from all over the world.

Donadio, who also teaches in the Physiotherapy program, of the School of Health Sciences, presented the paper Correlation of physical fitness with peripheral muscle strength, physical activity levels and lung function in patients with cystic fibrosis, which looks at the physical activity capacity of children and adolescents with cystic fibrosis. The research was embraced by the School of Medicine and School of Health Sciences and sought to investigate the main determinants of the intolerance for physical activity in these patients. “The study has shown that the strength of peripheral muscles is one of the relevant factors that must be monitored in the therapy of these patients”, explains he.

In his view, having the chance to join the event is a unique opportunity to disseminate knowledge, learn more and collaborate. Additionally, it fosters the continuous development of professionals in areas of interest and the possibility to contact peers for future research partnerships.
