Earlier in May, the coordinator of the Graduate Program in Law (PPGD), Dr Ingo Wolfgang Sarlet, went on a mission at the Law School of the University of Hamburg, University of Bremen and at the Europa-Kolleg Hamburg, in Germany. Sarlet coordinates the cooperation project Technology and society in a globalized world in crisis, which is embraced by the priority area World in Motion: Individuals and Society.

During his stay in Germany, the Law School professor attended an international seminar at Europa Kolleg, in tribute to the 85th birthday of Professor Peter Häberle, one of the world’s most renowned exponents of German Constitutional Law. The seminar was attended by professors from Germany, Spain, France, Italy and Portugal.

Sarlet also met with professors from the University of Hamburg, University of Bremen and Bucerius Law School to kick off cooperation projects. Today, the Law School has an academic and faculty mobility agreement and a joint research project on internet laws and regulation with the German institution. The investigation is coordinated by Sarlet in partnership with Professor Marion Albers, of the University of Hamburg. “This partnership has made it possible for German professors to visit Brazil and has opened the doors of German institutions for Brazilian missions and a number of PhD students from Brazil and Germany doing doctoral research internships”, Sarlet says. The project will produce in 2019 a collective book to be published in English by Editora Springer.

Similarly, a number of activities involving the Law School of the University of Bremen and PUCRS are on the schedule. These activities will include two workshops in the beginning of Jul 2019: one on social medias and another of environmental protection.

In Sarlet’s view, the mission will contribute to strengthen the internationalization under the priority areas, tighten, and expand the solid connections with the University of Hamburg. It has made it possible to establish an effective cooperation channel with the University of Bremen’s Law School.
