Transversais, as matérias ministradas em língua inglesa são uma alternativa para quem quer praticar o idioma e se preparar para experiências internacionais

Tendo a internacionalização como um dos seus diferenciais enquanto Instituição de Ensino Superior, a PUCRS oferece em todos os semestres disciplinas ministradas em língua inglesa. Para o primeiro semestre de 2024, são 18 opções para a escolha, e elas são uma oportunidade de praticar um segundo idioma em sua área de estudo. O inglês também ajuda os/as estudantes a se colocarem melhor no mercado, além de ser uma forma de entender um mercado cada vez mais global.
Nas disciplinas, o inglês é visto como meio de comunicação e não objeto de estudo (o chamado English as a Medium of Instruction – EMI). Isso significa que nas aulas não são abordadas questões gramaticais do idioma e o aluno é avaliado pelo conteúdo trabalhado na disciplina. Muitas delas têm caráter interdisciplinar, podendo ser opção eletiva para alunos de diferentes cursos.
Para a professora Gabriela Walau, da Coordenadoria de Desenvolvimento Acadêmico, da Pró-Reitoria de Graduação e Educação Continuada (Prograd), as disciplinas em inglês possibilitam o desenvolvimento de competências importantes para o mercado de trabalho.
“As disciplinas em língua inglesa são uma excelente oportunidade para vivenciar um ambiente altamente internacionalizado, sem sair da sala de aula”, comenta.

Os estudantes podem optar por cursar disciplinas do seu próprio currículo (equivalentes às em português), ou então de outros cursos, sejam da sua Escola ou de outras (que contarão como eletivas). Nessas aulas, o inglês é o meio de comunicação oficial entre professores e estudantes, mas o conteúdo é o mesmo que se teria em uma disciplina regular.
“As avaliações não são realizadas com base no nível de proficiência linguística, mas no desenvolvimento da aprendizagem tal como seria na disciplina em português. A PUCRS, seguindo seu compromisso institucional de internacionalização do ensino, vem aumentando e aprimorando o portfólio de disciplinas em língua inglesa, que hoje são ofertadas por todas as Escolas da Universidade”, adiciona Gabriela.
Entre as vantagens de ingressar em uma disciplina em idioma estrangeiro, você também aumenta suas chances de dividir a sala de aula com colegas de outros países. Isso porque muitos alunos internacionais em mobilidade na PUCRS buscam essas disciplinas para seu período de estudos por aqui. Dessa forma, você aprende e se desenvolve ao mesmo tempo em que compartilha vivências com colegas de diferentes culturas.

Além disso, as disciplinas em inglês são um ótimo ensaio para quem pretende estudar no exterior, seja para período de mobilidade acadêmica ou alguma capacitação fora do país. Desta forma, o estudante poderá praticar um segundo idioma e vivenciar trocas interculturais.
