Project by Jorge Hugo Silvestrini involves high performance numerical simulations and measurements
Professor Dr Jorge Hugo Silvestrini, of the School of Technology’s Graduate Program in Materials Engineering and Technology, has been serving as a Senior Visiting Researcher at the Geophysical and Industrial Flow Laboratory (Legi), at Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA), France. Silvestrini’s term at UGA began in Sept 2019 and will end in Feb 2020. He will be carrying out research into the atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) dynamics in stable situation due to thermal stratification and / or humidity.
The project officially began with Hugo Silvestrini’s first visit to Legi from Jan – Feb 2018. It involves high performance numerical simulations and wind tunnel and mountain measurements. The analysis of turbulent quantities is carried out for different situations. His work began with the adaptation of a computational code available to neutral stability (without stratification) and in situations with stable stratification.
In France, Hugo Silvestrini met with Sophie Adelaide Magnier, director of UGA International Partnerships and Projects, to introduce her to PUCRS-Print. At the meeting, parties showed increasing interest in developing exchanges, with a special focus on the mobility of doctoral students. The idea is to expand the collaborative activities as the agreement takes effect with joint degrees, formal research projects, articles and academic mobility.
