Professor from Italy’s Università Degli Studi del Molise (Unimol), Alberto Barausse is currently a visiting professor at PUCRS through the Institutional Project of Internationalization (PUCRS-PrInt). The professor was welcomed at the Office for International Cooperation by administrative coordinator, Sandra Miño, and professor from the School of Humanities and from the Graduate Program in History, Antonio de Ruggiero, last Thursday, November 9.

Ruggiero, who coordinates one of PUCRS-PrInt’s strategic projects, already keeps an established research partnership with Barausse. During his time in Brazil, the visiting professor was a lecturer in the II Journey of Research on Migrations, organized by the School of Humanities. On the occasion, they presented the main outcomes of international research carried out in the context of the institutional project. Professor Barausse also participated in a meeting the students and researchers from the research group on international migrations coordinated by professor Antonio de Ruggiero, as well as in strategic meetings to strengthen scientific partnerships, such as the coordination of a specific report on the history of Italian immigration in Brazil, by the Graduate Program in History’s Journal, Estudos Ibero-Americanos. During his stay, the Italian professor had the opportunity to consult books and archives at PUCRS’s Library and Center for Documentation (DELFOS), in addition to visiting the main historical archives and libraries in Porto Alegre and in the region.

During the meeting at the International Office, they discussed ways of strengthening partnerships and institutional academic mobility agreements of students and teachers, including cotutelle projects in graduate programs between PUCRS and Università Degli Studi del Molise. In addition, Ruggiero spoke about the cooperation project Migrations: Historic and Conceptual Perspectives and Analysis of Contemporary Phenomena, connected to the priority theme World in Motion: Individuals and Society, which features the collaboration of the Italian visiting professor. Ruggiero has already been in the Italian university in 2022 and was able to have institutional meetings with the President of Unimol, with delegates from the Schools of Doctorate and International Relations, and with the team responsible for the internationalization of the institution. The university has over eight thousand students and a strong faculty with over 500 professors.
