Building on the theoretical and practical foundations for curriculum internationalisation the University of Groningen in 2015 commenced an ambitious project to further internationalise the University through the International Classroom Project. The aim of the project is to “provide a platform to enhance awareness of our international environment and its implications, to exchange good practices, and further develop expertise, tools and support”. Drawing on Jane Knight’s definition of internationalisation which emphasises ‘a process of integrating an international and cultural dimension into the teaching, research and service functions of the university” the project leaders drew inspiration from the work of Betty Leask. Leask stressed the importance of address the formal, informal and hidden curriculum as conceptualised internationalisation of the curriculum as, “the incorporation of an international and intercultural dimension into the content of the curriculum as well as the teaching and learning arrangements and support services of a program of study” (2012).
