Stage 4: Act

The Act stage involves the full implementation of the plan and/or change developed through each the preceding stages. It also involves assessing likely impacts. This might include professional development for faculty directly involved in teaching and assessing intercultural skills, networking and collaborating to develop international collaborative learning opportunities for their students. Providing training to administrative and/or support services staff or international office staff to better negotiate and collaborate with faculty members may also be needed. The goal in the Act stage is successful implementation, buy-in, and engagement. The core question in the Act stage is:

  • How will we ensure that students and staff are best supported to achieve our internationalisation plan?

Activities associated with this stage might include:

  • Negotiating and implementing new teaching arrangements and support services for staff and students
  • Trailing new support arrangements in the informal curriculum
  • Introducing compulsory workshops for all students prior to a multi-cultural teamwork assignment
  • Introducing new assessment tasks
  • Introducing a new course/unit
  • Collecting evidence to evaluate the development of intercultural and international knowledge, skills and attitude in students (qualitative and/or quantitative).
