21/08/2018 - 09h50

2018.08.14-summer-coursesRegistrations are open for the School of Medicine’s Summer Courses in the areas of Surgery, Urology, Obstetrics and Clinical Neurology. The three-week long courses offered in the middle of the Brazilian summer, from Jan 7 – 25, 2019, consisting of a total of 60 hours, will be offered at São Lucas Hospital.

This short-term program has been designed for undergraduate Medical students from any country and any university. The courses include practicum work at clinics and inpatient units and surgery wards and direct involvement with patients, under the supervision of professors. They will run from Monday to Friday, from 8 AM to 12 PM, and are intended to promote the continuous development of these students and provide a relevant international experience for them.

The coordinator of the School of Medicine’s Summer Courses at PUCRS, Mrs Maria Jose Borsatto Zanella, claims that the program will give students a chance to gain experience activities related to the promotion of health and clinical practice in a context different from the one of their home country. “They will have the chance to do an internship with the assistance and support of a highly qualified faculty”, says she.

The Summer Courses have been remodeled and now mark the beginning of an important strategy to attract international students. “In a broad perspective, they help promote the expansion of incoming mobility, the development of a culturally diverse scientific environment and the increased visibility of PUCRS internationally”, adds Dr Heloísa Delgado, Dean of the Office for International Cooperation. The courses are also useful for professors of PUCRS to think up new courses and, thus, contribute to the development of this type of program at the University.

At the end, a certificate will be provided to students. Further information about the program can be found here or with the Academic Mobility team at [email protected].
