R&D Project – Study of the carbonation of saline aquifers and reservoir rocks and its effect on the process of CO2 sequestration in geological environments.

Sponsor:
Petrobras

Period of execution
2007

Project presentation:
Study of geochemical interactions, in particular of carbonation processes in CO2-fluid-mineral systems, focusing on seal rock formations and their consequences for the reservoir, evaluating the possible changes in the system resulting from the interaction of the geological environment with CO2 at high pressure .
Knowledge of the best conditions (pressure, temperature, pH) for use in the carbonation process in reservoirs;
Adequacy of the study carried out on the addition of CO2 in saline solutions and rocks for the case of saline aquifers and petroleum reservoir rocks;
Understanding of reservoir-rock dissolution processes and loss of stored CO2.
