Introduction

Full Professor of the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS), Porto Alegre, Brazil, National Council Researcher (CNPq, since 1995), Visiting Professor at the University of Toledo, Ohio (since 2007), and former Coordinator of the Assessment Area of Philosophy at the Brazilian Federal Agency for Support and Evaluation of Graduate Education (CAPES, 2018-22). After earning a Ph.D. in Philosophy (State University of New York, 1994), Nythamar de Oliveira conducted postdoctoral research at the New School for Social Research (1997-98), London School of Economics (2004-05), Universität Kassel (2005, 2012), University of Toledo, Ohio (2007-08), University of Miami (2014-15), and Université Paris 8 (2022). He was associate professor at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC, 1994-99) and has been a fellow researcher of the Alexander von Humboldt Stiftung (2004-05, 2012). He currently coordinates the AI Ethics research groups RAIES (Network for Ethical and Safe AI) and RAIP (Responsible AI Platform), respectively funded by FAPERGS and CNPq.
