Introduction

Doctor of Dental Surgery from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Brazil, in 1985. Master of Science in Occlusion from the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor in 1991, Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Toronto in 1998, Specialist in Prosthodontics and in Orofacial Pain from the Brazilian Government Federal Council of Dentistry (CFO). Professor of Dentistry at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul - Brazil since March 2000. Board member of the International College of Prosthodontists and editoral board member of the International Journal of Prosthodontics.
