Klaus Hilbert, born at the Amazon, is Professor for Archaeology at the Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS), Brazil, since 1990. He did his PhD at the University of Marburg (1984), Germany and is specialist for Pre-Columbian South American History. His main research interest is on the Prehistory of the Amazon and the Rio de La Plata region. He coordinated for many years the PhD-program of Ibero-American History at the Catholic University and formed, over the last 20 years, more than fifty professional archaeologists with master and PhD-degrees. Now he is conducting a research-group on Material Culture Studies at the Catholic University.
