Introduction

Dr. Izete Zanesco is currently professor of the School of Technology and of the Postgraduate Program in Materials Engineering and Technology (PGETEMA) of the PUCRS. She coordinates, together with Professor Adriano Moehlecke, the Solar Energy Technology Nucleus. She is also a scholarship holder of productivity in technological development and innovative extension of CNPq and supervises undergraduate, master and doctoral students. Dr. Izete Zanesco received the B. S. degree in physics in 1987 and the M. S. degree in engineering from UFRGS, in 1991. The M. S. thesis was focused on renewable energy. In 1996, she received the Ph. D. degree in photovoltaic engineering from Polytechnic University of Madrid, Spain. Prof. Izete Zanesco published 150 research papers in journals and congresses in the field of photovoltaic solar energy and requested 8 patents. He has been a member of ABENS since 2003 and of the ISES since 1998 and she was co-founder of the MESol network. The R&D activities are focused on the field of solar cells, photovoltaic modules and photovoltaic systems, where she coordinates R&D projects subsidized by companies of the energy sector and public agencies. The R&D project entitled "Pilot Plant for the Production of Photovoltaic Modules with National Technology" was the winner of the II Best Universities Award - 2006, in the category of innovation and sustainability. Dr. Izete Zanesco was nominated for the Claudia Award 2011, in the science category.
