Introduction

He holds a degree in Electrical Engineering (1983), a Master's degree (1987) and a PhD (1995) in Computer Science at UFRGS and a post-doctorate in Computer Science at GeorgiaTech (2002). He is a full professor, teaching classes in undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Computing at PUCRS. In the Graduate Program he take part of the Machine Intelligence and Robotics group. Since the creation of PPGCC / PUCRS in 1993, he has been working mainly in the areas of business process automation, non-conventional databases, bioinformatics and knowledge discovery in databases (KDD). He has advised 34 masters and 8 PhDs in Computer Science at PPGCC-PUCRS. In addition, he advised more than 40 Graduate Projects. In Scientific Mentoring, he has already guided more than 20 students. Currently, he advises 4 MSc and 4 PhD students in the research areas mentioned above. He has coordinated and participated in research and development projects, both supported by development agencies and companies. In particular, in the last 15 years he has coordinated projects with Hewlett-Packard, DELL, Motorola, SAP and Tlantic. He has national and international insertion as part of program committees of national and international conferences, editorial committee of international scientific journal and had the role of local coordinator of an European Commission project, framework program 7.
