Introduction

Clarissa Lovato Melo is the Research Coordinator at the Institute of Petroleum and Natural Resources (IPR) of the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS). She is also the Coordinator of the Biotechnology and Environmental Monitoring Laboratory. She has a Bachelor's degree in geology (2000), a Master's degree (2002) and a Doctorate (2006) in Geosciences from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) with 1 year of doctoral experience at the École Polyténique de Montreal (Canada). His research topics were related to monitoring and remediation of contaminated areas by oil spills. Before joining PUCRS, in 2010, Clarissa worked for 5 years (2006 to 2010) at PETROBRAS, as a professor at PETROBRAS University and as a researcher at the Research Center (CENPES). Since then, she has developed R&D&I projects on Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) and more recently, research associated with other low-carbon technologies, such as DACCS, Hydrogen, and Bioenergy with CCS (BECCS).
