Dean of the School of Medicine goes to the International University of Catalonia, in Spain

Work Mission pursued the prospection of new projects in healthcare

The professor in the Graduate Program in Pediatrics and Dean of the School of Medicine Leonardo Araújo Pinto went on a work mission at the International University of Catalonia (UIC), from Spain, though PUCRS’s CAPES-PrInt Program. With this opportunity, the professor discussed possibilities of cooperation in research and mobility with professionals from the Spanish university, in addition to prospecting new projects in the areas of realistic simulation, education in health and infectious diseases.

The professor explains that the Sant Cugat campus at the UIC, located in Barcelona, is one of the great references in healthcare is close to the university hospital where IUC’s academics work at. The researcher met with PUCRS professor Marcio Donadio, who works at UIC through the Bridges Program, as well as with other collaborative specialists in the field of physical activity in children and adolescents. Working in the field, the UIC researcher Marta Amor is scheduled to visit PUCRS on the second semester of 2023, supported by the CAPES-PrInt Program.

Leonardo Pinto participated in a seminar on multidisciplinary attention to patients with chronic disease and on the possibilities of growing and institutional collaboration in the field. Regarding the line of research in the Graduate Program in Medicine and Health Sciences on acute bronchiolitis and respiratory infections, a collaboration is expected with professor Carmen Muñoz, a reference in the field of research on pneumococcal infections and respiratory viruses. During the mission, the professor also visited the Reference Center for Cystic Fibrosis of the Vall d’Hebron Hospital, one of the best treatment and research centers in Europe in the field, according to the Dean.

The purpose of the professor’s mission, thus, was to expand PUCRS’s and UIC’s operations in the field of realist simulation to improve PUCRS’s School of Medicine’s Realistic Simulation Center. According to Leonardo, the initiative intended to strengthen the partnership to improve the teaching of medicine, nursing, and physiotherapy and to expand academic mobility programs between the partner universities.
