Pneumologist and PUCRS professor receives international recognition

José Miguel Chatkin received the title of Lifetime Achiever from Marquis Who's Who

2018_07_17-chatkinThe medical coordinator of the Pneumology Service of PUCRS São Lucas Hospital (HSL), José Miguel Chatkin, received the title of Lifetime Achiever from Marquis Who’s Who for his professional and academic medical production. Since 1899, upon selection and official nomination by evaluators, the international organization publishes the bibliography of outstanding professionals in several fields of knowledge. Chatkin was acknowledged for his work and achievements in Medicine.

A pneumologist and educator, he specializes in smoking and tobacco-related diseases. With a Medical degree from UFRGS (Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul), he holds Master’s and PhD degrees from the same University and a Post-Doctorate from the University of Toronto. He has worked at the HSL and PUCRS School of Medicine since 1976, both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, with 69 supervisions completed in his field for students holding scientific initiation fellowships, and master’s- and doctoral-degree candidates.

He has published 104 papers, most of them in foreign indexed journals, as well as 53 books and book chapters. From 1986 to 2009, he advised the World Health Organization/Pan American Health Organization (WHO/PAHO) for the implementation and monitoring of National Programs for Control of Acute Respiratory Infections, with operations in 12 Latin American countries and four Portuguese-speaking African countries. He is President-Elect of the Brazilian Society of Pulmonology and Phthisiology
