The Alliance for Innovation UFRGS, PUCRS and Unisinos, throught their science and technology parks Zenit, Tecnopuc and Tecnosinos, is pleased to host PORTO ALEGRE 2024, a global conference dedicated to the Latin America Division of the International Association of Science Parks and Areas of Innovation (IASP), from March 18 to March 20, 2024.

We warmly welcome participants from science, technology and research parks, areas of innovation, clusters and knowledge-based business incubators, including all the stakeholders from the innovation industry.

Planned in a strategic week in Porto Alegre, the Conference program is connected to South Summit Brazil 2024, providing the attendees with a deeper understanding of the Alliance of Innovation as a regional development case.

Discussions about “Alliances for Innovation - Connecting Latin America for Impact” will guide the Conference program, which includes technical visits to important local innovation environments, discussion sessions with renowned panelists and valuable networking opportunities.

One of the effects of an ecosystem articulated through these alliances is South Summit Brazil (SSB24). The event, which is in its third edition, is connected to the Conference program, as it takes place in the following days - March 20-22, 2024.

South Summit is one of the premier global showcases for the world’s leading companies, startups, investors and institutions that want to accelerate innovation, build lasting relationships, identify opportunities and generate business. Tecnopuc

For 20 years, PUCRS´s Science and Technology Park (Tecnopuc) has been articulating academia, companies, research centers, governments and society to develop entrepreneurial talent and innovative businesses, focusing on making a positive impact. It features over 90,000 m2, distributed across two locations (Campus PUCRS Porto Alegre and Viamão), and around 250 organizations - from startups to multinational corporations - develop innovation, connected to various stakeholders in society and academia.

The result of the connections fostered throughout its trajectory goes beyond Brazilian borders, taking the park to be internationally recognized - in 2023, it was given a Global Innovation Ecosystem of the Year award at Triple E Awards, promoted by the Accreditation Council for Entrepreneurial and Engaged Universities (ACEEU).


Tecnosinos

Created more than twenty years ago, Tecnosinos houses global companies, micro-enterprises and startups that work collaboratively in areas of information technology, automation and semiconductors, communication, digital convergence and technologies for health. Tecnosinos has a range of meeting rooms, training rooms and videoconferencing facilities available to companies based in the park. It also has highly equipped labs for developing digital and physical prototypes as well as cutting-edge media labs.

By encouraging an entrepreneurial culture, it helps to create transformational products that can change people’s ways of living. Tecnosinos also operates as a mechanism for encouraging entrepreneurship through the presence of Unitec (a business unit of Unisinos), which supports technological innovations and was the first incubator in the country to receive the Cerne 4 certification from the Reference Center for Support for New Ventures (Cerne).


Zenit

ZENIT - The UFRGS Scientific and Technological Park began operating in 2012 with the aim of promoting the university's research, innovation and entrepreneurship system through new ideas that transform the productive sector and bring innovative products and services to society.


Instituto Caldeira

Instituto Caldeira is a thriving innovation hub in the heart of Porto Alegre’s 4th District. With a sprawling 22,000 m2 of modern and industrial architecture, the space boasts a lively and electric ambience for over 120 resident companies,entrepreneurs, startups, universities and public authorities from all sectors.

Caldeira was founded by 42 large companies who shared a vision to foster innovation and drive societal changes. Its vibrant community includes more than five hundred firms and institutions from the innovation ecosystem. Members receive exclusive benefits, events and services, including equity-free development, discounts to acceleration programs, open innovation and educational platforms. As a nonprofit, it is dedicated to promoting economic and social development through education, connections and partnerships.

About Alliance for Innovation

The Alliance for Innovation UFRGS, PUCRS and Unisinos is a partnership between the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS) and the University of Vale of Rio dos Sinos (UNISINOS). The aim of connecting the universities is to foster high-impact actions to advance the innovation ecosystem, transforming the region into an international benchmark for innovation, knowledge and entrepreneurship.

As a strategic action designed by the Alliance for Innovation with the Porto Alegre municipality, Pacto Alegre has emerged as a strong articulation innovation movement of the city. The aim is to gather more than 100 public and private entities to define priority projects for transforming the city through innovation and collaborating to maximize impact.

The South Summit Brazil is a concrete example of how an ecosystem that joins forces to impact local development can move forward. Attracting the event to Porto Alegre was a sum of the efforts of public and private institutions addressing the macro-challenge of promoting Porto Alegre as a global business environment. Designed in 2018, today the event is a reality that brings more than 20,000 participants from all over the world to Porto Alegre every year.

Visa

Brazil adopts a policy of reciprocity regarding visas. This means that nationals of countries that require visas for Brazilian citizens will need a visa to travel to Brazil. According to the Brazilian law, Brazil must agree, on a reciprocal basis, to offer visa waiver to nationals of another country, except for the hypotheses established in the Decree 9.731 / 2019. Brazil has signed visa exemption agreements with around 90 countries.
