The classes of the third edition of the Portuguese language course for Haitian immigrants ended on July 14 with the delivery of certificates. The activity results from a partnership between the School of Humanities, the Pastoral and Solidarity Center, Caritas and the Santa Clara Parish. Started in May, the course was attended by 24 students.  Many of them arrived in Porto Alegre in the end of April 2018 and faced the great challenge of learning a new language.

Over the course of approximately three months, always on Saturdays, the associate dean of PUCRS’ School of Humanities, Regina Kohlrausch, Cristina Perna, a professor of PUCRS undergraduate program of Letters, and master’s candidates Aline Antunes and Rafael Ferreira taught the lessons to the immigrants. The joyful closing ceremony included a moment of prayer, a presentation of songs by the students, a word of the students about the classes and a commemorative lunch sponsored by a donation from the Parish of São Pedro, Porto Alegre. A new class will be formed in the second semester, scheduled to begin on August 18.
