As stated by the Government of the State of Rio Grande do Sul, on Apr 28, the decision to resume in-person classes on May 4 has been suspended. Hence, PUCRS will continue to deliver online instruction in the courses that can be held online. For now, specific actions will also be in place for Certificate and Extension courses.

In the coming days, the Government of the State will present a specific plan for education. After these orientations are issued, the University will be sharing a detailed plan of operations for the coming weeks.

It is worth mentioning that PUCRS has actively participated in a series of talks with the Consortium of Community Universities in Rio Grande do Sul (Comung), an entity that congregates 15 Higher Education Institutions, including the main private universities in Rio Grande do Sul. The group is attentively monitoring the decisions issued by the State Government to put together a plan to resume activities as safely as it can.

PUCRS is available to its community through a number of channels. You can click here site específico da Universidade sobre a Covid-19 to find out about all the online services that are being offered to support the university community right now.

Online classes and exams

Following a complex study involving specialized teams and the Academic Schools, each area of the University will follow different guidelines. There are more than 50 undergraduate programs, as well as graduate and certificate programs.

Program coordinators are responsible for sharing the impact of the pandemic on each program. Some exams and tests may be moved up. Therefore, each professor will have the autonomy to decide how they will evaluate their students.

Efforts to fight coronavirus

Dozens of researchers, professionals and students at PUCRS are mobilized in the search for solutions on the most diverse fronts. Our laboratories are in full operation, producing PPE for healthcare professionals. Others are being used to search for faster, lower-cost diagnoses or possible drugs to help treat the disease, among numerous other initiatives. We are aware of our role as a University and of the importance of science for this – and so many others – moments in our history.
