One of the most important thinkers in Contemporary Education and Universidade de Lisboa professor, Dr António Nóvoa came to PUCRS on Aug 20, to teach the course Modern Education, from the Certificate Program Pós PUCRS Online. Nóvoa, who represents Portugal at Unesco, was welcomed by the President of PUCRS, Br. Dr Evilázio Teixeira, and by the Senior Vice President, Dr Jaderson Costa da Costa.

As a guest professor, he taught the course Projects in Education, and discussed teacher training and stressed the importance of understanding professional rationality in the workplace. Nóvoa is an enthusiast of the concentration of efforts in innovative and collaborative environments, as the educational work is being oversight and constantly monitored. These efforts draw inspirations from permanent reflections and research in order to improve the legitimacy of the teacher’s practice. “We need to acknowledge the involvement of universities in teacher training as it occurs in other academic areas, unlike the reductionist perspective of a teacher’s work which looks at it merely as missionary and vocational”, adds he.
