School of Humanities Professor serves as visiting professor in Paris

School of Humanities professor, Dr Teresa Marques, served as a visiting professor at the Centre Européen de Sociologie et de Science Politique (CESSP) at Université Paris 1 Panthéon Sorbonne. She participated in general activities at the invitation of Professor Dr. Isabelle Sommier.

During her stay in France, Teresa delivered the conference L’arrivée de la droite au pouvoir et l’activisme transnational pour la démocratie au Brésil, as she addressed social collectives that seek to raise awareness of the international public opinion in favor of Brazilian democracy. These collectives are active overseas, especiallyin France, Argentina and the United States. The event was developed for CESSP faculty and doctoral students.

“During my stay in Paris, I also developed part of my field research, under the research project Patterns of migrant activism in times of the conservative wave”, she says. In the project she coordinates, Teresa seeks to analyze the political engagement of migrants (economic, academic or refugees) and current transnational activists.

Teresa, who completed part of her doctorate in France, collaborates with researcher Isabelle Sommier in the area of Political Confrontation Theory. “In order to provide further discussions develop future partnerships, Professor Isabelle invited me to join her,” the professor says. In February, Teresa will also give a conference at the Université Libre de Bruxelles, Belgium.
