PUCRS stands out in ranking of the best universities in the world

Assessment made by the Center For World University Rankings analyzed around 20 thousand institutions and places PUCRS as the only private Higher Education Institution (HEI) in the state of Rio Grande do Sul among the 2 thousand best

Last week the Center For World University Rankings (CWUR), considered the largest academic ranking in the world, announced the results of the 2023 assessment. Around 20 thousand institutions were analyzed based on Education, Employability, Faculty, and Research. In the global assessment, PUCRS is among the 2 thousand best universities in the world, surpassing over 90% of institutions. The university went from the 1504th position, in 2022, to the 1494th position this year, which places it among the top 7,3%.

PUCRS also stands out among the best placed Brazilian institutions in the ranking, in the 39th position and being the only private Higher Education Institution in Rio Grande do Sul in the list. The CWUR assessment also places in University among the 70 best universities in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Assessment criteria

  • Education: measured by the number of a university’s alumni who have won prestigious academic distinctions relative to the university’s size;
  • Employability: measured by the number of a university’s alumni who have held top positions at major companies relative to the university’s size;
  • Faculty: measured by the number of faculty members who have won prestigious academic distinctions;
  • Research: measured by research output (total number of research papers), high-quality publications (number of research papers appearing in top-tier journals), influence (number of research papers appearing in highly-influential journals), and citations (number of highly-cited research papers).
