PUCRS elected the best private university in the Southern Region by QS Latin America

The ranking assesses the productivity and impact of 98 Brazilian universities

Once again, PUCRS has been ranked among the best universities in 14 nations in Latin America and the Caribbean. The QS Latin America Ranking 2023, published by British organization Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), classified the university as the best private institution in the Southern Region of Brazil.

Ninety-eight public and private universities in Brazil were assessed. PUCRS remains the 2nd best private university in the country and occupies the 16th position among all Brazilian institutions. The results of this edition are based on data from 2020. In all, some 428 universities in Latin America and the Caribbean were evaluated.  

QS Latin America ranks the best Latin American and Caribbean universities, assessing the productivity and impact of studies, employability, teaching, online impact and internationalization. Eight indicators are used: Academic Reputation; Employer Reputation; Faculty/student ratio; Staff with a PhD; International Research Network; Citations per paper; Papers per faculty; and Web Impact.   

Scientific production is the standout feature presented by Brazilian universities in the ranking. PUCRS is among the top ten institutions in the country and placed second in the Southern Region for the Citation per Paper indicator, with the university presenting growth compared to the previous edition of the rankings.

Remembering other awards   

For the second year running, PUCRS was the only private university from the state of Rio Grande do Sul listed in the QS World University Rankings 2023. The survey by British organization Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) also ranked the university among the best in Brazil, electing it the third-best private Institution of Higher Education (IHE) in the country.

The Times Higher Education (THE) Latin America 2022 study once again highlighted PUCRS amongst the best universities in Latin America and the Caribbean. The ranking recognizes the institution as one of the Top 10 Brazilian Universities and as the best private university in the Southern Region of Brazil.

The Center For World University Rankings (CWUR) 2022, considered the world’s most important academic ranking, highlighted PUCRS among the top two thousand universities in the world, coming in ahead of 90% of the institutions. The university was also highlighted among the highest-placed Brazilian institutions in the ranking and the only private Institution of Higher Education (IHE) from the state of Rio Grande do Sul on the list.
