PUCRS and Newcastle University suggest internationalization at homeTo bring to Brazil a new initiative in Higher Education, in which it will be possible to bring the teaching and research to an international level at home, that is, without the need to travel abroad, is among the actions that will be presented in the seminar Internationalisation of Higher Education in the UK and Brazil: A partnership between Newcastle University and PUCRS.

The event, which occurs on May 16, at the auditorium of building 9, is promoted by the Higher Education Study Center (CEES), of the School, is open to everyone and includes consecutive interpreting. Click here to sign up at no charge.

Since 2016, a group of PUCRS researchers has been working and conducting systematic actions in partnership with Newcastle University (UK), a member of a network of 24 leading British universities named Russel Group.

The seminar will consolidate this partnership and is intended to discuss internationalization from British and Brazilian research networks; encourage reflection on both research and teaching and institutional practices through exchanges; and reinforce interaction, production and the flow of knowledge on internationalization of Higher Education.

RESEARCH PROJECTS

Among the research outcomes to be presented is an investigation conducted by professor Alexandre Anselmo Guilherme, of the Graduate Program in Education of the School of Humanities (PPGEdu), and by professor Adele Paztor, from Newcastle. They investigate the academic impact and the experiences gained by Engineering students from Brazil who went on an exchange to the UK through the Ciência sem Fronteiras program.

Another initiative to be proposed is how the five PUCRS researchers, working in this partnership, are setting up connections with their peers in Newcastle, as well as the advances and challenges of this first year of activities. This investigation is coordinated by professor Marilia Morosini, a member of PPGEdu and coordinator of the Higher Education Study Center of PUCRS, and British professor Sue Robson, the seminar’s most anticipated guest.

According to Morosini, the event’s organizer, “to think Higher Education at home is one step forward in terms of internationalization, especially in view of partnerships such as this, which enable the design and completion of international curricula of excellence, which will be of benefit to mostly undergraduate students; as well as that, it will strengthen graduate-level education and bring positive experiences to the teaching faculty”.

NEWCASTLE GUESTS

Professor Sue Robson will be delivering two lectures during the event: Internationalisation in and of Higher Education: challenges and possibilities for our network; and Approaches and Tools for Internationalisation at Home. In addition to that, professor Steve Whasl will address Methods Research in HE internationalisation.
