Coming from Instituto Butantan, the Chinese vaccine CoronaVac, which is being tested in Brazil to fight Covid-19 arrived in Rio Grande do Sul, earlier this week, at PUCRS’ São Lucas Hospital (HSL). The HSL team received the first batches for trials. The hospital has also received more than 5,000 applications from volunteers interested in participating in the study.

The list of 850 health professionals who will be involved in the process should be finished this week. Then, trials will be scheduled. Participants will be divided into groups and after receiving the injections, they will be monitored continuously for the results.

A milestone: the arrival of batches

According to Saulo Bornhorst, technical director of HSL, CoronaVac’s clinical trials can be a great solution for people, give that this has been a major concern since the beginning of the pandemic. “We anticipate that the most likely positive outcome for coronavirus is through vaccination. This arrival of these batches is a milestone. The survey has a data entry protocol. The volunteers will fill out a form, and a form of consent”, he says.
