In the first semester of 2020, 73 students from various undergraduate programs will be studying at PUCRS’ partner universities outside of Brazil. The group will be leaving for 15 countries for an academic mobility program: Germany, Argentina, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Spain, United States, France, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Portugal, United Kingdom, Sweden and Uruguay.

At the pre-departure orientation on Thursday, Dec 5, the Office for International Cooperation team shared important information about the program and gave students high-quality orientation. The session was also attended by Psychology faculty Dr Valéria Thiers, who spoke about cultural shocks and the challenges that mobility programs poses.

Bridges to the world

Law School student Malu Vitória Facchinetto, chose Universidade de Coimbra, in Portugal, for the academic mobility program as the university is highly recognized in her area of studies. “Portugal helped to found Brazilian law and the mobility program gave me the chance to have an immersion into this country”, she celebrates.

On the other hand, School of Health and Life Sciences’ Psychology major Jéssica Santos Machado will be going to Universidade do Porto in 2020. “It is an opportunity to see what it is like to go to a different university. It will also give me the chance to grow as a person. I’m considering working on my Master’s or PhD abroad and this experience will contribute to this future plan”, she says.

Mariana Faccio Muller, a School of Technology’s Mechanical Engineering major, chose University of Parma, in Italy, as a destination for academic mobility. Of Italian descent, the student has always dreamed of living in the country and took advantage of the possibility to enroll in courses that could be transferred to her undergraduate program in Brazil as she lives her dream overseas.
