The Project

Summer Courses are short-term study programs in several areas. This three-week course will offer international students practicum work in four areas – Surgery, Urology, Obstetrics e Clinical Neurology – to be facilitated by PUCRS’ faculty members, and will foster medical students’ continuous development. Students will get a certificate at the end of the program.

When and where: The morning classes will take place at the PUCRS’ São Lucas Hospital, one of the most important hospitals of Rio Grande do Sul, mostly at the clinics and inpatient units and surgery wards.

Students will be offered practicum work in Adult Urology (surgery, inpatient care, and operating rooms) as they will provide medical care to patients and work on case studies with a School of Medicine’s Urology specialist. The program seeks to offer international Medical School students opportunities for practice in Urology by joining specific activities as stated in the syllabus of the course on Clinical Surgery of the School of Medicine at HSL – PUCRS.

To offer mentored practice into the sub-specialties of Neurology and supporting specialties (Neurophysiology and Neuroimaging) to Medical School students from Latin American Universities.

  • Outpatient evaluation of critical epilepsy patients;
  • Outpatient evaluation of neuroimmunological patients;
  • Analysis of patients in inpatient units for presurgical evaluation of epilepsy;vvvv
  • Electroencephalography interpretation sessions;
  • Case studies for discussing the need for surgeries for critical epilepsy patients;
  • Exams and electroneuromyography interpretation sessions;
  • Analysis of electrocorticographies;
  • Theory classes and discussions of neurological cases;
  • Practicum sessions of neuroanatomy;
  • Real-time interpretation of Neuroimaging exams.
