Introduction

Carlos A. dos Santos graduated with a BSc degree in Mechanical Engineering from the School of Engineering of Piracicaba (Piracicaba, Brazil) in 1994. He received his MSc (1997) and PhD (2001) degrees in Mechanical Engineering: Materials and Manufacturing Processes from the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP, Brazil). His researches are in Metallurgical Processes and Material Science, focusing on Materials and Manufacturing Processes, acting on the following topics: Solidification of Metals, Continuous Casting of Steels, Mathematical Modelling of Solidification, Heat Transfer, Metallic Materials, Phase Transformations, Microstructures-Mechanical Properties Correlations, Production and Use of Biodiesel, Renewable Energy. Dean of the School of Engineering at PUCRS between 2012-2017.
