Introduction

Alfredo Cataldo Neto, M.D. (UFRGS), Psychiatrist (PUCRS/Brazilian Psychiatric Association and World Psychiatry Association), Psychoanalyst (Psychoanalytic Society of Porto Alegre and International Psychoanalytic Association), and Ph.D in Clinical Psychiatry (PUCRS), is currently a full professor at the PUCRS School of Medicine and editor of the scientific journal Pan American Journal of Aging Research (PAJAR). He has experience and research in the area of Psychiatry and Psychoanalysis, working mainly on aging and mental health. He coordinates the Aging and Mental Health Research Group (GPESM). He has 117 papers published in journals, 127 book chapters, 10 books and has successfully advised 80 undergraduate and post graduate students, while receiving 40 scientific research awards. He has been awarded the “Irmão Afonso” Medal (PUCRS) for relevant services to the University.
