Activity mediated by animals: an organizer in the classroom

Abstract

This article presents an exploratory study about classroom activities mediated by animals, with a group of students in the city of Porto Alegre, Brazil. Its goal is to understand the changes in the process and organization of the group of students with the inclusion of animals. Elementary school students participated in the study and various animal species. The students had difficulty in school and histories of family abandonment. The data was collected by social-demographic questionnaire, direct observation and open interview, and the analysis was qualitative. The results indicate that the presence of animals strengthened the group processes, facilitated the relationships between members and generated new group organizations.
