The presence of education and research combined with advanced technological resources - besides encouraging continuous updating of the clinical staff - contributes to reach one of PUCRS’ goals: educate health care professionals with high levels of excellence.

Education

As a University Hospital, São Lucas encourages and supports the development of education in Health Sciences at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, which contributes to the quality of their health care services.

Research

Research is another valuable pillar of quality. The Hospital is part of the National Network of Clinical Research Units in Teaching Hospitals, with its modern Clinical Research Center. It provides support to researchers and the knowledge-generating units of the University located on its premises, such as:

- The Biomedical Research Institute - Center of Excellence is comprised of 10 laboratories and 3 centers, developing experimental research of high complexity;

- The Brain Institute (InsCer): future reference center for treatment and research of neurological diseases, multidisciplinary research in neuroscience and cell therapy, to be inaugurated in 2011.
