Cepac is an interdisciplinary center for Reserach, Development, Innovation, Demonstration and Transfer (RDID&T) in petroleum, mineral resources and carbon storage technologies for climate change mitigation and energy production. It is a joint initiative of PUCRS and Petrobras, through the Environment and Natural Resources Institute (IMA) and Faculty of Chemistry, with participation of the Faculty of Engineering, School of Humanities and the Graduate Program in Materials Engineering and Technology (PGETEMA).
The current structure holds several research labs (reservoir characterization, mineral carbonation, numerical modeling, among others), with more than 60 professionals from diverse areas, mainly geologists, geographers, chemists and engineers.
The purpose of Cepac research activities is the analysis of potentiality, risk, capacity, durability and profitability of CO2 geological storage activities, associated or not to energy production (oil, gas and hydrogen). Among the objectives of Cepac are:
