Tecnopuc – PUCRS’ Science and Technology Park has been elected the best Science and Technology Park in Brazil. The announcement was made on December 8, in Brasilia, by Brazilian Association of Entities Promoting Innovative Enterprises (Anprotec), at the Prêmio Nacional de Empreendedorismo Inovador. This is not the first time Tecnopuc has gained this recognition. The institution received the honors in 2004 and 2009. Cliever, a company graduated by PUCRS’ Raiar Incubator, has gained recognition too and is among the best graduated companies in Brazil.

Rafael Prikladnicki, Tecnopuc’s director, understands that “the award is a recognition of joint efforts undertaken by Tecnopuc and PUCRS and their partners in terms of developing mechanisms that lead to innovative actions and development, business generation and the commitment to creating an innovative entrepreneurship system”, says he.

Home to 120 companies and 6,5 job postings, Tecnopuc offers training programs and services in each step of business implementation up to its consolidation, such as Startup Garagem – Programa de Modelagem de Negócios, the process of incubation and post-incubation. Tecnopuc has recently opened Condomínio Inovapucrs, which completes the cycle of business development, thus consolidating their capacities and paving the way for an effective application of technological innovation.

Besides, the Park’s actions bring benefits to both the city and the region it operates in. An example of that, is the pioneering role played by PUCRS, through Tecnopuc, in the consolidation of an effective project for Porto Alegre’s 4th District. Internationalization actions (eight Tecnopuc’s companies went on business missions in Canada, Portugal, Italy, among other countries) and on programs intended to foster a better integration between the companies established there, such as the Programa Aceleração de Sinergias, which encourages and fosters qualified actions between companies, have also been decisive for the recognition.

This is the 20th edition of Prêmio Nacional de Empreendedorismo Inovador, which recognizes and acknowledges projects, business incubators, technology parks and graduated companies every year, which, by means of their actions, services and products, strengthen the process.

About Tecnopuc

Tecnopuc, relying on a history of 13 years, has become a vector of regional and state-level development, as it has attracted major companies and fostered the generation of startups through several programs and services. It also promotes research and innovation through simultaneous actions between universities, private institutions and government. Companies of all sizes, entities, and PUCRS research centers are located in two sites: in Porto Alegre and Viamão, both in the state of Rio Grande do Sul – Brazil.

Much more than a large number of companies and jobs created, Tecnopuc has become a reference in Latin America as a modern Science and Technology Park focused on cosnolidating research into businesses. Major international market players play a role in this scenario. Giants in the IT industry, such as HP and HPE, have their research and development centers in Brazil at Tecnopuc. Mindful of this reality, other global players such as Microsoft, Huawei, Microsoft, Accenture and ThoughtWorks, as well as major domestic companies, such as DBServer, GetNet, Stefanini and Globo.com, have their offices at Tecnopuc.

Many startups have been created in this scenario and, in view of the opportunity of working side-by-side with large companies in the sector, they have come to Tecnopuc, and consequently will contribute to the consolidation of this innovative environment. Examples of such are Aquiris Games, Toth Tecnologis and Grupo RPH. Many small and medium-sized companies, innovation and technology giants – such as the Association of Brazilian Companies for Information Technology (Assespro),  the Project Management Institute (PMI), the Programa Gaúcho de Qualidade e Produtividade and the Brazilian Association of the Electric Industry and Electronics (Abinee) -, as well as University and Federal Government research centers, compose this diverse environment.
