PUCRS, HSL and BraIns introduce social impact actions

Social Report features data about benefits to society and academic community in 2018

CAPA-REL-907X605-HORIZONTALOver the course of the year 2018, the extension actions promoted by the University, which include health care activities, volunteering sessions, training programs and cultural shows, reached out to more than 830,000 people. 5,700 students were awarded with the institution’s scholarship and financial aid programs in an effort to take advantage of the opportunities for a changing, sympathetic and entrepreneurial education. When it comes to research, as many as 2,500 students made a contribution to science through graduate and scientific initiation grants. These are just some of the main social impact outcomes contained in the most recent edition of the Social Report PUCRS, Hospital São Lucas (HSL) and Brain Institute of RS (BraIns). The data compiled from the three institutions shows that 59% of the total number of jobs – 6,826 – are held by women. All these positions are taken both by staff and apprentices. Also, 1,076 people completed the different training program that were offered for team development.

As for internationalization of research, the project PUCRS PrInt has established 14 cooperation projects with international institutions, involving 23 graduate programs. As for health care, not only are HSL and BraIns a reference in assistance, teaching and research, but they also stand out for the humanized relationship with patients. At the Hospital, 10,000 hours of volunteering actions were devoted to assistance of 69,000 people. BraIns has reached out to more than 400 people with community projects and has promoted assistance at no charge for 300 patients from the Universal Health Care System.
